Wightlink Cycle RT

Wightlink Cycle RT is a group of mainly Isle of Wight based riders who want to road race and as there as no or very rare opportunities to do this on the Island have to travel to far and wide to apply their trade. The team was set up with the idea to let riders race often enough to improve their ability and enjoy regular racing.
This has proved successful in the past and the team has had riders competing for Great Britain at the World Championships in the Road Race, Time Trail, Track and Cyclo Cross, also at the Common Wealth Games and Youth Olympics in which a gold medal was won.
Team members James Brett and James Ebdon recently travelled over to the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth for the Ray Martin Distance League Race. The race was held over 40 minutes which didn't leave a lot of time to get a good positions. Brett broke away with another rider and they quickly gained a lap on the field meaning it would come down to a final lap sprint, Brett powered his way to the line to take the win. Ebdon, who was competing his first race of the season came a respectable 15th.
Wightlink RT rider Mike Ruddling was in Fareham the weekend of the 14th May, to take part in the Roy Ludford Memorial Tour of the Milbary's. This involved two stages in one day, a four mile time trial and a seventy mile road race. Ruddling took 1st place on the time trial putting him in the yellow jersey position and looking good for a overall win. With only one lap to go on the last stage Mike unfortunately had a mechanical problem and had to abandon the race. The following day team mate James Brett headed to Berkshire for the Southern Cross Country Series, with a strong field to contend with and a technical course James managed to take 14th place in his first mountain bike race of the season.
